Outgoing president sees bright future for Nambour

Outgoing Nambour Chamber of Commerce president Timothy Smith has outlined three major initiatives he believes will have a significant impact on the town’s prosperity.

Mr Smith said the Nambour Heritage Tramway project, development of the Entertainment Precinct and ongoing work of the University of the Sunshine Coast in C-Square would help set Nambour up for a bright future.

Works on the Tramway Depot terminus in Mill Street was completed earlier this year and works are underway on the tramway tracks.

“I expect that we should see the tram up and running through town in the coming year and this will then bring special attention to our area,” Mr Smith said. “Obviously, the tram will provide some destination marketing for us, along with some of the other assets we have in Nambour – such as the mini trains and beautiful Petrie Creek along with our wonderful parks and walks.”

Mr Smith said the tram should encourage destination marketing by Visit Sunshine Coast which can then be leveraged by the Chamber and individual members.

Mr Smith said Nambour’s status as a Special Entertainment Precinct would enhance its reputation as being a great town in which to live, work and play.

Nambour’s status as a Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP) is only the second of its kind in Queensland.

“I believe that business will again flourish in the future because of what is happening in this sector,” he said.

He said the ongoing work of the USC in C-Square would be a vital component in the development of Nambour as being an education hub.

“This, along with the introduction of some cutting-edge tech companies such as R4 Robotics to our community, will only enhance our reputation that Nambour is not just a great place to set up a business but also the local environment and facilities provides a great location to live and raise a family.”

At the November 18 AGM Mr Smith handed over the reigns to a new board of eight. Under the Chamber’s constitution the new board will elect a new president and committee.
